Preschool Program

The Preschool Program accepts children from 3 to 6 years of age and is a five-day experience. Both a half-day and a full-day program are available for your convenience.

A five-day experience allows the spontaneous learning of the child to flow smoothly. Sporadic attendance does not allow the child the same opportunity to pursue his or her unfolding interest.

The child is the main focus in the Montessori classroom. One of the most important ways a young child learns is through his senses. He learns by seeing, touching, tasting, hearing and smelling.

The Montessori classroom gives the child an environment in which he can learn through his senses, with socially designed equipment. This equipment helps the child to sharpen his senses and lets him better understand the world around him.

The Montessori equipment starts with sharp contrast and works towards small differences. Each piece of equipment is designed to meet one need. Each is isolated out by the specific area it works with. An example would be thermic bottles and the sense of touch and temperature discrimination. They are all very similar: the difference being the temperature of each bottle.

The preschool curriculum focuses on language, math, art, music, Spanish, American Sign Language, practical life and physical education. The preschool classes take one field trip each month to allow the children to interact with the community. Parents are encouraged to join the students on all outings and may volunteer in the classrooms as well.
